Q: Who should consider The Coastal Challenge?

A: Any runner who wants to challenge themselves on many levels and experience the thrill and satisfaction of pushing themselves further than they ever thought possible. If you appreciate the camaraderie that naturally develops when a diverse group of individuals share in that kind of experience together then you’ll appreciate this event. Read Irene Hale’s account and some of a race profiles and you’ll see that many ordinary athletes and casual runners come to “take on the challenge”, as well as world class ultra-runners like Beverly Abbs.

January 30: Official registration and a poolside reception for competitors and guests at The Best Western Irazu in San Jose.

January 31: We will transport you to the Race Start about 2.5 hours away.

TCC Expedition Run: Team Rules and Race Strategy (3-6 Runners on a Team)

Rules:

At least 3 team members on every Expedition Run Team MUST complete each stage AND make designated time cut-offs on at least two stages in order to remain ranked as an Expedition Run team. These cutoffs will be listed in your Race Guide and are created primarily for safety and logistical reasons. These cutoffs are based on keeping a CONSISTENT pace of no less than 3.75 mph over a variety of terrain.

Registration is limited to the first 125 competitors.
Registration deadline occurs once the slots are filled or by January 15.
A deposit is required to reserve a spot.

Race Dates: January 31 - February 5, 2010

Length of Race: 6 Days

Location: The remote and dry Northwestern coast and volcanic regions, through inland lakes, windswept highlands, jungle and tropical dry forest. The course is set in Costa Rica's driest area.
