Have you ever wanted to learn to surf with your friends or race through trails of a tropical rain forest? Here’s a chance at a women’s only event.

Each day will be full of competition on the trails, action on the waves looking for good breaks on your own or with our professional surf instructors. Then look forward to some relaxation at our lodging facilities or kicking back in coastal towns. There will also be one half day of white water rafting down a lush and remote river valley.

You’ll enter a competitive trail run race and spend the rest of each day surfing or in a relaxed environment where you can wind down and recharge.

If you enjoy running, competition, beautiful scenery, yoga, surfing, laughter, movement, breathtaking sunsets, adventure, fun and genuinely warm people who share an appreciation and enthusiasm for all these things then we invite you to join us.

Terrain: Rainforest trails, beaches, reefs and estuary crossings.

Highlights: Staying at the Rafiki Lodge on the Rio Savegre and seeing the Savegre river valley and rainforest. Last day will be a fast paced beach run that incorporates a board paddling section and fun spirited surf competition as part of the race to a terrain feature and peninsula known locally as “the whale tail”

Balance

Balance

Adventure & Relaxation

Achieving balance is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves, even if it only a temporary state. Seeking balance is something that we will embrace and encourage at Surf & Run

TCC Adventures and Expeditions is known for creating and producing uniquely challenging and rewarding international events. Our latest creation:  “XX-Y: Surf and Run Adventure”  exceeds our expectations!

In some ways it’s a risk for us to venture into producing such a hybrid event, because no event in this format has ever been offered until now!

But since we like taking risks we never questioned whether it could be successful. We also decided to take the concept deeper and offer it exclusively to women.

XX-Y 2011 will be held at in a tropical oasis known for its appeal to adventure seekers.  The event concept was created upon the philosophy that we as individuals are inspired and empowered by overcoming new challenges and old fears.

We also know that inspiration comes not only from within but also from being a part of something larger than ourselves and being connected to a positive transformation in others!

Now, do you have to wonder why we enjoy creating these events so much?

The core element of XX-Y is the opportunity for women to compete as runners against the trail and time.   Begin your days taking by hitting the trails as your body takes on nature and the clock.  Enter the afternoon and let your body flow with the ocean as you ride the tides and surf.

Come together as friends to share in a unique experience, gaining new awareness, fresh perspectives, or some unexpected insight through the thrills and spills along the way.

For those new to surfing: Make no mistake: surfing is not learned in a few days but the things you learn from your time spent at XX-Y both in the water and out will be relished for a lifetime.

The art that is surfing lies in the waves, which admired from a distance, will humble you in very short order while learning the basics of balancing on a board.

Beginners take heart because the person that may have scorched you on the trail run that morning may be next to you struggling in a new challenge.

All elements create opportunities for us to discover something deeper and more expansive within ourselves. Sometimes it’s simply realizing that the shared laughter of a few new friends can wash away the insignificant in our lives and momentarily reveal something authentic and profound.

Join us for an adventure of the body, elements, and spirit!

TRAVEL INSURANCE

http://www.insuremytrip.com/

Do I need Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance can be a smart safeguard when planning your international travel, and it can be an especially attractive option when planning to attend an event like the Surf and Run Adventure.

Travel insurance can provide a measure of comfort and security to competitors and their guests by knowing that your investment will be covered in the face of unexpected life turns.

Details, terms and conditions, and restrictions of the travel insurance policy are listed at insuremytrip.com and the plan we recommend is:

Access America Classic plan:

  • Estimated Insurance premium ~$90 USD
  • * Based on estimated $2000 USD Trip Cost, $50,000 USD Medical Coverage
FAQ's

FAQ's

  • If you’re arriving into San Jose a day early, we’d highly recommend you stay at the Best Western Irazu. The pool and courtyard are beautiful. A restaurant, bar, complimentary wireless internet are all within the hotel (not your standard Best Western!).

  • Getting to Costa Rica is easy and there are reasonably priced flights to San Jose’s International Airport, Juan Santamaria International Airport or (SJO), from many major hubs and airlines in the US.

  • Roundtrip transfers from the San Jose International Airport to the Best Western are included in the racer registration fee.

  • We recommend that no one depart San Jose International Airport any earlier than 3 pm on February 19th. There is absolutely no guarantee you'll make earlier flights based on our travel time back from Hermosa Beach (Dominical) that morning. If you need to stay one more night in San Jose we again recommend making arrangements with The Best Western Irazu in San Jose.

  • Travel insurance option

  • For those looking to extend their trip, please feel free to do so! If you’d like to stay in Playa Hermosa when the race crew departs on the 19th please just let us know in advance.

  • There are only 38 spots available for people to lodge the first night at Rafik Lodge. If you register later and OK to camp for one night on Rafiki’s beautiful property we will provide 6 person tents (for 3 people each) and reduce your registration fee $ 125.00

  • Vegetarians can and will be accommodated but you'll need to notify the race staff by January 15, 2011.

  • You do not need to know how to surf to thoroughly enjoy this trip and you do not need to be an endurance runner or competitive runner.  A thirst for adventure and appreciation for new people and experiences, however, will be a valuable asset.

  • All daily adventure excursions or classes and workshops are included in the registration fee. If you choose not to participate in a daily event, it’s not a problem. We’ll make sure to fill the day with plenty of fun and/or relaxing things to do. After all, it’s Costa Rica!

  • A valid passport is necessary when traveling to Costa Rica. No visa is necessary. US currency is honored in Costa Rica.

  • There is a departure tax of $26 dollars charged at the airport when leaving Costa Rica.
